The High Court in Harare has quashed the conviction of former Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala, finding him not guilty on the charge of obstructing justice.

Sikhala will, however remain in custody over his other charges of incitement to commit violence, and disorderly conduct.

Citizens Coalition for Change deputy spokesperson, David Ostallos Siziba confirmed the development on his X wall.

“The High Court of Zimbabwe has ruled that both the conviction and sentencing of Hon Job Sikhala is illegal. He was falsely convicted by the magistrates’ court. He is a political prisoner and must be released!”

The State argued that Sikhala posted a video with the intention of misleading the police who were investigating Ali’s dismembered body.

Justices Pisirayi Kwenda and Benjamin Chikowero, sitting as an appeal court, ruled that magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa had made an error in convicting Sikhala in May this year.

The incitement to commit violence and disorderly conduct charge relates to allegations that Sikhala along with the former legislator for Chitungwiza North constituency, Godfrey Sithole made utterances which incited public violence and also that they supplied vehicles that ferried CCC supporters from Epworth and Chitungwiza to Nyatsime.
