Tynwald School bus driver informs police he needs rest before he can submit his license

Chamunorwa Machimbidzofa is yet to produce his driving license and other requisite documents and has informed the police that he wants to rest first.

Machimbidzofa was the driver behind wheel when the Tynwald High School bus was in a road crash on 14 October in which six learners perished and others were injured.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyati told Zim Now that Chamunorwa's lawyer communicated on his behalf saying he wanted to rest.

According to road safety Africa Road Safety Observatory Roads4Life Champion Mr Tatenda Chinoda, a school bus is considered a public service vehicle and Machimbidzofa must produce a driver’s license, a valid defensive driving certificate and a valid medical certificate.

Under Zimbabwean law, if one is involved in a traffic incident attended by the police, and they do not have required documentation with them at the scene, they must submit such papers to the nearest police station within seven days.

Driving without a license is a punishable offence with penalties varying on circumstances.

Machimbidzofa’s failure to produce any documentation has become a matter of national discussion.

The school authorities are under the spotlight for authorizing a night trip among other points of public interest.Tynwald School bus driver informs police he needs rest before he can submit his license

If Machimbidzofa should turn out to be improperly documented, the authorities will face questions on how he came to be behind the wheel on the fateful day.
