The Grain Marketing Board has received a fresh injection of ZWG$52.1 million from Treasury, allowing it to complete outstanding wheat payments to farmers across Zimbabwe.
This latest disbursement pushes the total paid to wheat producers to ZWG282.1 million and US$33 million — funds that have now been fully cleared, marking a significant milestone in the government's drive to support local wheat production and strengthen food security.
GMB chief executive officer, Dr. Edson Badarai, acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr. Anxious Masuka, in unlocking the funds.
"The Grain Marketing Board has received ZWG$52.1 million for wheat payments this week, bringing total payments to ZWG$282.1 million and US$33 million. The Board greatly appreciates the support given by Minister Masuka in facilitating disbursement of financial resources from Treasury," said Dr. Badarai.
With wheat farmers often relying on timely payments to finance their next production cycle, the payout comes as welcome relief amid a challenging agricultural season.
Dr. Badarai reaffirmed GMB’s ongoing commitment to partnering with farmers and stakeholders in promoting a self-sufficient and sustainable wheat sector in Zimbabwe.
