As turmoil in the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change worsens, sources familiar with the goings-on confirm that candidates from Sengezo Tshabangu’s camp have already submitted their nomination papers across the country, while those from Nelson Chamisa’s faction remain in limbo, awaiting the official party direction.
This comes as nomination courts across the country are receiving prospective candidates’ papers for National Assembly as well as local authority by-elections
With time running out, speculation swirls about the CCC’s next move. One potential option, according to some sources, is for the affected candidates to run as independents.
While this might allow them to participate in the elections, it raises questions about their affiliation and raises concerns about a potential split within the party.
The source of this disarray lies in the recent recalls initiated by disputed CCC secretary-general, Tshabangu. These recalls have targeted several party members seeking to contest in the by-elections, creating friction and casting doubt on their candidature.
Further compounding the confusion is Tshabangu’s alleged blocking of other potential CCC candidates.
Adding to the complexity of the situation are accusations of Tshabangu's legitimacy as Secretary-General. His appointment has been contested by a rival faction within the CCC, further muddying the waters and adding to the internal discord.
Tension and confusion have gripped the party as the nomination court’s closing time rapidly approaches.
