A 24-year-old father, who was in the habit of bathing with his four-year-old daughter and in the process sodomised and raped her, has been slapped with an effective 15-year custodial sentence.
Joseph Panashe Julius, 24, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of rape.
The complainant in this matter is a four-year-old juvenile.
The State alleges that on August 26, at around 0200 hours, the complainant was asleep with Julius in the dining room.
Julius then allegedly woke up, removed the complainant’s skirt and raped her.
The complainant screamed because of the pain and started crying.
Early in the morning, it is alleged, a woman asked the complainant why she was crying as she disclosed the issue to her.
The complainant revealed that Julius allegedly raped and sodomised her several times when she bathed with him.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Julius’ arrest.
