Wilfred Mashaya in Bangladesh for International Martial Arts Champs

Zimbabwe Kobudo Maestro, Wilfred Mashaya, popularly known as Zim Ninja, arrived in Bangladesh today for the International BG Karate Championship 2023.

The tournament, which is scheduled for BKSP Sports Village, Saver, Dhaka, is set to run from today to December 29, 2023 and is organised by Shihan Khaled Monsur Chowdhury Bangladesh Goju Ryu Karate Federation, supported by Bangladesh Bashap Association.

Master Mashaya will be representing Zimbabwe in Kobudo (Weapon Categories) under the banner of Zimbabwe Karate Union. Apart from Kobudo, the Tournament will be have Karate categories that range from Senior, Junior and Cadet categories in both Kumite and Kata.

The Weapons The Kobudo Maestro specialises in include the Tonfa, Nunchaku, Katana Swords, Sai, Bo and Kama among others.

Mashaya introduced the Kobudo discipline in Zimbabwe in 2016 after conquering Russia in an International Kobudo Tournament held in Moscow.

Previously, Zim Ninja has coached The Zimbabwe Kobudo Team that has done well in Weapon/ Weaponry Competitions (Kobudo) thereby raising the country's flag high in sports in 2023 tournaments.

A recipient of several medals, which include the 20 he and his team bagged in August in South Africa at the Regional Martial Arts Tournament and the 11 that he and Vincent Fambira won in the ICO Martial Arts World Championships held in Hull, England.
Speaking ahead of the Bangladesh tournament, Mashaya said they are in dire need of sponsorship.

“We should have sent a team of three but financial constraints limited us to one participant. We however, hope that the corporate world and other sponsors will chip in to support us in the future as we strive to put the country on the map through representing it on the global stage,” said the Kobudo champion.
