The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of two women at a bar in Tafara on New Year's eve.
This comes as there were reports of complete blocking of the road leading to Kamunhu Shopping Centre with haphazardly parked cars and a crowd of over 2 000 people were celebrating New Year.
The two women reportedly died at at Kasi Kasi Bar in Tafara.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi warned the public and media not to rush into conclusions but wait for the result of police investigations.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is conducting full-scale investigations you into the incident. The police caution the public and media against rushing into conclusions as investigations unfold.
“The police is also awaiting a full post mortem result on the possible cause of death of the victims,” said Ass. Comm. Nyathi.
Ass. Comm.Nyathi added that police condemned the unruly behaviour of motorists and general public during New Year celebrations in Mabvuku.
“We call upon liquor outlet operators to out in place measures to ensure there is adequate parking space to avoid chaos and stampede during commemoration of major events,” Ass Comm Nyathi added.
Circumstances of the matter are that an informant alerted the police about a crowd and three women lying near Kasi Kasi Bar and the main road which links Mabvuku and Tafara around 3am on New Year’s Day.
The three women were reportedly taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where two of them were pronounced dead.
