JSC assigns magistrates for matters related to Feb 3 by-elections

The Judicial Service Commission has assigned 23 magistrates countrywide, who will deal with matters relating to the February 3 by-elections.

The roll of the administrators of justice is in General Notice 2101 of 2023, published by JSC Chairman and Chief Justice Luke Malaba in the Government Gazette of December 22, 2023.

Magistrates for Harare are Learnmore Mapiye, Dennis Mangosi and Sheanesu Motova, in Mashonaland West Archie Wochiwunga, Lissa Mutendereki, Zanorashe Zanorashe and Christine Nyandoro, in Mashonaland East the matters will be dealt with by Sekai Chiwundura and Rumbidzai Munemo, in Matabeleland South, Charity Maphosa, Takudzwa Gwazemba and Vavariro Gabi will handle arising matters.

Sherpherd Munjanja and Vakai Chikwekwe will deal with the cases in Bulawayo, while in Matabeleland North Kudzanayi Manyike will handle the cases.

In Masvingo, Farai Gwitima and Rutendo Jakati were appointed, while in Midlands Sangster Tavengwa, Beaulity Dube and Mildred Matuvi were designated, in Manicaland Tendai Mahwe, Anniah Ndiraya and Tatenda Makwanya will deal with arising cases.

The magistrates were delegated in terms of provisions of the Electoral Act.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Chief Elections Officer, Utoile Silaigwana has appointed the Constituency Elections Officers for the by-elections.

Mabel Masiko of Chegutu West will be stationed at Chegutu Town Council, Loice Masimu, will be doing Goromonzi South, Goromonzi RDC Offices-Ruwa, Edwin Shumba, Mkoba North, Mkoba 1 High School, Nomagugu Nyathi Pelandaba-Tshabalala Nkulumane Housing Office, Stewart Zvavambire, Seke, Jonasi Secondary School, and Givemore Masongorera, Zvimba East, Mt Hampden Training Centre.

The by-elections follow the recall of dozens of legislators and over 42 councillors by CCC interim secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu.

The nine by-elections that were held last month to fill the vacancies in Parliament triggered by the initial recalls saw Zanu PF winning seven out of the nine contested seats.
