X users gun for Ray Vines after post on Solomon Haruzibwi

Comedian Melusi Chiripowako, aka RayVines, has been criticised for making an untasteful joke on X, formerly Twitter, towards Solomon Harudzibwi who has albinism.

Ray Vines and Harudzibwi were involved in an X brawl in which Harudzibwi told the comedian that he will never make a comeback.

Ray Vines responded saying: “Ndosaka uchishisha kana ukarohwa nezuva” a statement which has been viewed as sensitive and inhumane.

X users said the struggling comedian is trying to be relevant and have advised the comedian to retract his post, which he refused to do but instead accused the users of having double standards.

In a video, the comedian said he would not apologise or retract his post.

Miss albinism Zimbabwe said the supposed joke is inhumane towards the Albino community.

“As Miss Albinism Zimbabwe, this is a grave insult to my entire Albino community and disabled community. @rayvinesmelusi must be arrested, l understand a @PoliceZimbabwe report can be made from anywhere in Zimbabwe. We were not born this way by choice but God’s doing. He must pay,” she said.

The Noble Hands Zimbabwe said Ray Vines has to apologise to the Albino community for his sensitive utterances.

“We are deeply concerned about dehumanising hate speech by one @rayvinesmelusi against people with albinism, such utterances undo the incredible work that has been put to weed off discrimination and stigma against people with albinism in Zimbabwe. We expect an apology from him,” TZHZ said.

KingJay- “his is absolutely disgusting and shameful! An embarrassment to Society!”

Cecilia Mukundi- “You need to take down your post ASAP. If you don’t usazoti Mavara ako azara ivhu. What kind of a human being are you. No matter how we differ hatitsveruke kusvika pakutuka things we can’t change. You are disgusting.”

Mulomwe- “This response was so low it is a mockery to all people with albinism.  It is so much in bad taste.”

This comes at a time when the Albino community is advocating against stigma and discrimination of people with albinism and the need to eliminate harmful practices against people with albinism.
