Disputed Citizens Coalition for Change secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu has dismissed appointments into leadership positions in the party that he reportedly made.

This comes as unconfirmed reports had emerged, claiming that Tshabangu has appointed Professor Welshman Ncube as the party’s interim president. This was after another report had also said the Matabeleland North politician had appointed Mbuso Siso as national treasurer, Albert Mhlanga (deputy national chairperson), Sikhululekile Moyo (women assembly chairperson) and Nomvula Mguni (national director for elections).

In an interview with Zim Now, Tshabangu said the party had not made such appointments as they follow the party's constitution in everything that they do.

“I have seen the alleged appointments reported in the various news outlets. The party has had no process to make such appointments. There is an imperative to follow the constitution in all that we do.

“Our party is consulting and engaging with a view to bring our party back to a constitutional path and to restore our ‘deposed’  leadership structure in terms of the constitution adopted in 2019 as rebranded on 22 January 2022.

“As in any process, there are malcontents bent on compromising this process, it is those malcontents that are spreading this mischief. Please, dismiss these reports as they are not only false but malicious,” Tshabangu told Zim Now.

Tshabangu has recalled dozens of legislators from Parliament, arguing that they had ceased to be members of the CCC and some constituencies held by-elections on December 9 last year to fill the vacancies left by the recalled lawmakers.

Another round of by-elections has been slated for February 3 and Tshabangu has filed an urgent High Court application seeking to bar recalled legislators and councillors – like in the December 9 by-elections – from the by-election as they filed their nomination papers under the CCC, the party that recalled them.
