As chaos, confusion and fights in the Citizens Coalition for Change political outfit continue unabated, disputed secretary-general of the opposition party, Sengezo Tshabangu has said his mandate is to return the party to constitutionalism, adding that Promise Mkwananzi belongs to CCC Wapusa Wapusa faction.

In a statement dated January 16, Tshabangu said the structure that was elected in Gweru in 2019 must be recognised, adding that it must take the party to the next congress.

“As I have stated before, my mandate as the Interim Secretary General is to ensure that the party returns to constitutionalism, collective and people centric leadership. This will be done by ensuring that the leadership and structures of the party from branch to the National Council, and party leadership and structure as elected in Gweru in 2019 is recognised,” reads the statement from Tshabangu in part.

The CCC secretary-general added that Promise Mkwananzi, who replaced Fadzai Mahere as national spokesperson, is not a member of CCC.

“The agenda to return the party to constitutionalism and collective leadership is important. To this end, we want to reiterate the Mr Promise Mkwananzi long ceased to be member of the CCC that met and resolved to relabel itself the 22nd January 2023 (sic). He appears to now speak on behalf of CCC Wapusa Wapusa.

“CCC Wapusa Wapusa is a different political group, separate and distinct from CCC born out the resolutions of the MDC Alliance National Executive Committee and the MDC Alliance National Council On the 22nd January 2023. To the extent CCC Wapusa Wapusa purports to have program of action, that program of action is completely different from our CCC whose program is based on the People Agenda as articulated since 1999 and reiterated at the 2019 Congress,” wrote Tshabangu.

Tshabangu, who intimated that there are two CCCs, said there are two constitutions before the courts of law.

“For the avoidance of doubt there are two constitutions before the Court law,” he told Zim Now in an interview.

Tshabangu also rubbished reports that he had made appointments in the CCC, arguing that no one but ordinary members of the party can do so.

“In CCC, no individual, including myself, has the power or authority to appoint any person to a leadership position. Appointment to leadership positions ought to be a product of active participation of the ordinary members the party as provided for in the party constitution.”

Tshabangu also alleged that there were attempts to replace elected leaders with taskforces in an effort to subvert the will of the people. These, Tshabangu charged, pretended to act on behalf of Chamisa.

Pressed further to disclose who the individuals in these taskforces were, Tshabangu named Jameson Timba, Gift POstallos Siziba and Promise Mkwananzi.

“Since 2200 January 2022, there have been efforts to replace democratically elected leaders with Taskforces whose illegal powers are relied upon to subvert the will of the people, undermining internal democracy. Lately, individual members of these Taskforces have been pretending to act On behalf of President Nelson Chamisa.

“Regrettably, this has manifested in attempts to impose unpopular leaders in local government, undermining public service delivery and well as our efforts to curtail public health hazards associated with the spread of cholera in rural and urban areas,” Tshabangu said.

Tshabangu said all those who were against collective decision-making and leadership elected at Gweru congress were part of CCC Wapusa Wapusa.

“Criminals around the president and all those who are opposed to the collective decision-making process and leadership elected in Gweru congress,” Tshabangu said.
