I'm the only one with power to effect recalls in CCC: Tshabangu

Disputed Citizen’s Coalition for Change secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu has said he is the only authority to effect recalls and communication of such to any public body.

This comes as there are reports that CCC party leader, Nelson Chamisa had recalled Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume and six others for allegedly working with Tshabangu.

In a letter to the Minister of Local government, Public works and National Housing, Tshabangu told the Minister that only he had the power in the CCC to recall any official of the party.

“We hereby advise that Sengezo Tshabangu, interim Secretary-General of the party is only officer authorised to effect recalls and to communicate with public bodies for that purpose,” Tshabangu wrote in the letter.

He further noted that no other official in the party has the power to effect recalls hence should be disregarded.

“We ask that you have regard to the legal matters before the courts and our constitution before acting on any purported letters of recall and rightly disregard such mischievous efforts,” he added.

Lawyer Moffat Makuvasine, in a previous interview with Zim Now said that the firing of a sitting mayor by a leader of the party can not be done directly.

“In simple terms, a party leader can only fire a mayor as a member of the party and not from the position of being mayor,” Makuvatsine said.

Tshabangu has been interdicted from effecting any further recalls through a High Court provisional order until the finalisation of a case where his authority is being challenged.
