Female candidates’ percentage for the 2023 Ordinary Level examinations has increased by a 5.03% margin from last year’s, the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council has revealed

This comes as the schools examinations body released the November 2023 “O” level results, which showed that female candidates had outperformed their male counterparts.
In a statement, Zimsec chairperson, Professor Eddie Mwenje, said that a total of 29 094, translating to (30.01%) female candidates passed five or more subjects as compared to 24 371 (24.98%) who passed five or more subjects in 2022.
“This shows an increase of 5.03% in the 2023 pass rate for female candidates,” Prof. Mwenje said.
“The November 2023 results show that the percentage pass rate for female candidates was at 30.01 while that of male was at 29.06. These percentage pass rates increase by 5.03 and 3.9 respectively in favour of the girl child,” Prof. Mwenje added
The examinations body also noted the percentage pass rate increase in the special needs category with an overall percentage of 25.79 in 2023 as compared to 17.88 in 2022.
“The 2023 pass rate for special needs candidates increased by 7.97%,” Prof. Mwenje said.
The year 2023 saw a significant decrease in the number of candidates who sat for examinations as compared to 2022.
