Social media criminal catcher Detective Kedha in court for theft and smuggling

Former cop Tafadzwa Chidawa who is well known for helping apprehend criminals in Harare CBD under the moniker Detective Kedha yesterday appeared in court facing vehicle smuggling and fraud charges.

Chidawa stands accused of smuggling a vehicle stolen in South Africa into the country, fraudulently registering it and selling it for US$12 000.

The State through Anesu Chirenje said Detective Kedha stole a Toyota Hilux double cab from South Africa and smuggled it into the country in December 2022 and fraudulently allocating it registration number AGE 6745.

Chidawa then sold the vehicle to Melody Kufakwemba for US$12 000.

Detectives intercepted the car in January 2023 and on checking discovered that it was not properly registered. A search on the Interpol data base showed that it had been stolen from South Africa.

In a related matter, the state alleges that in July 4 last year, Chidawa received US$8 500 from Kufakwemba for the purchase of a newly imported Nissan Caravan but later convinced her to top up so that he could get her a Toyota Hilux.
