Zanu PF party has castigated former opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader, Nelson Chamisa for blaming the ruling party for challenges he faced before announcing that he had dumped his party.
Chamisa pulled a shocker on Thursday when he told the nation that he no longer had anything to do with CCC, the party he formed two years ago after losing control of yet another political formation, the MDC Alliance.
In stepping down, Chamisa accused Zanu PF of infiltrating his party. He also claimed that the ruling party connived with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to rig the 2023 harmonised general elections against him.
In an interview with Zim Now, Farai Marapira, the Zanu PF director of information, dismissed Chamisa’s sentiments, advising him to come to facts with his own weaknesses.
Marapira believes that Chamisa misled himself when he decided to be a “despot” with the strategic ambiguity as his strategy.

“As Zanu PF, we are not really concerned with what occurs within the opposition ranks. We have our own party to run and a nation to serve. However, we take exception at the continued infatuation and statements made by Mr Chamisa wherein he can not find any fault with himself,” he said.
“Any setback that befalls him has got to be Zanu PF’s fault, but it is not Zanu PF that told him to do strategic ambiguity. It was his own decision. It was not Zanu PF, which told him to be a despot, it was his own decision. Mr Chamisa needs to be a responsible leader and come to facts with his own weaknesses instead of continuing to take the people of Zimbabwe for fools with whom he can keep on with his denialism and blame-shifting continuously.
“He needs to take responsibility for his shortcomings and change his behaviour. That is the only mark of respect he can show to the electorate. We wish them well. We do not wish them to be destroyed. We hope that they just learn to respect the people of Zimbabwe.”
In an interview with Newzroon Africa, South African-based Zimbabwean academic Dr William Mpofu said Chamisa’s decision to dump his party showed that he had run out of ideas.
“When a leader opts out, it’s an indication that they have run out of ideas. They have run out of political gamesmanship that is needed in confronting challenges. If the leader is jumping out of the ship because of challenges that have arisen within and without the political party, what guarantee do we have that those challenges are going to emanate in whatever new unit or whatever arrangement is going to arise?
“The issue that is needed is that Zimbabweans, including that leaders that include Nelson Chamisa, should cultivate the habit of confronting problems and solving them and of being politicians and playing the political game and winning and losing within the political game, not jump the ship,” he said.
