Tributes continued to pour in for Munyaradzi Mugabe, who died in a car accident last Saturday, in a crash that also killed his father and former Theological Seminary of Zimbabwe principal Prof Henry Mugabe.
The accident also claimed the life of Dr Dudzirai Chimberi, who was the current principal of the institution.
Besides being the chairperson of Gweru Sports Club rugby section and organising secretary for Midlands Rugby Football Board, Munyaradzi was also a coach for the Midlands Christian College Under-14 rugby team.
Describing Munyaradzi as a gentle giant, the Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU said in a statement:
“He had a keen interest in the development of rugby from the grassroots. He recently was responsible for the revival of rugby at Gweru Sports Club and the province through hosting several developmental tournaments.
“His contribution to the development of rugby in Gweru and Midlands Province was immense as he was an astute administrator, gentle, firm but fair, down to earth, unassuming and friendly family man off the field of play. We join his family and the rugby community in remembering a gentle giant.”
In announcing his death, Zifa Central Region Division One Champions, Sheasham Football Club said:
“It is with great sadness to announce the untimely death of our fan, Munyaradzi Mugabe. Munya was involved in a road accident somewhere around Dawnlands, Lalapanzi, heading towards Gweru after attending the GZU (Great Zimbabwe University) graduation. The accident claimed his father, Professor Henry Mugabe and Dr D. Chimeri. Funeral arrangements will be advised. May their souls rest in peace,’’ announced Sheasham.
According to an official at the Theological Seminary of Zimbabwe, Munyaradzi, who was behind the wheel, lost control of the vehicle around Dawnlands, Lalapanzi, leading to the car veering off the road before hitting a tree.
Dr Chimberi was buried on Monday while Munyaradzi and his father, Prof Mugabe will be buried on Saturday at Chikarudzo Village in Morgenster, near Masvingo.
