Two Central Bakers & Millers employees have been taken to court accused of stealing more than US$16 000 worth of maize.
Edwin Mwale, 41, of Pixiecomb Kadoma and Kudakwashe Murehwa, 46, of Hopely Waterfalls, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of theft.
The complainant in this matter is Central Bakers & Millers, represented by Nelson Tom, a security officer at the company.
Central Bakers and Millers owns a farm in Kadoma, which mainly focuses on production of maize, which is then transported to Central Bakery & Millers through Netombo Transport Logistics Company.
When the maize is stored, it is then stored in a warehouse under the custody and supervision of Mwale and Murehwa.
The State alleges that from May 2023 and July 2023, the two, who were custodians of the maize bags in the warehouse, stole 9 735 X 50 kgs of maize bags from Central Bakery & Millers using their own transportation.
The offence came to light when the complainant carried out an internal investigation through stocktake and that is when it was discovered that 9735 X 50 kgs of maize had been stolen.
As a result, the total value of stolen property is US$16 3061.25.
They will appear in court tomorrow for bail application.
