Buckle up, Zimbabwe! The electric vehicle revolution is gaining momentum, with the number of EVs on the country’s roads skyrocketing to nearly 3 000 units. This remarkable surge marks a significant leap in the nation’s green transportation journey.
Data released by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development reveals that a total of 2 883 EVs have been imported to date. This positive development has sparked excitement and commitment from key stakeholders like the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority.
“We’ve seen a tremendous increase in electric vehicles, both fully electric and hybrids,” said Zera CEO, Edington Mazambani. “Campaigns promoting their adoption have paid off, and distributors and support services are already established in the country.”
He further emphasised ongoing efforts to build a robust support network: “Charging stations are operational in Harare, Mutare, and Bulawayo, and one is planned for Gweru, a strategic midpoint on the Harare-Bulawayo route.”
Zimbabwe’s e-mobility journey stands as a shining example of how innovative policies and strategic implementation can drive positive change. With continued commitment and innovation, the country is poised to become a leader in Africa’s e-mobility revolution.
