Two men, who stole a car while the owner was asleep in it, have been taken to court.
Japhet Marume, 33, and George Banda, 26, appeared before magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft.
They were remanded in custody.
The complainant in this matter is Kennedy Bingwa, 37, of Gletwin, Chishawasha, Harare.
The State, through prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that on February 4, at around 0300 hours, Bingwa parked his white Isuzu Twin Cab along Samora Machel Avenue, between Seventh and Eighth Street in the Avenues area of Harare.
The two accused and their accomplices, who have already been arrested, took advantage that Bingwa had not locked his car doors while he slept in the car.
They opened the rear passenger doors of the car and entered. They allegedly stole a satchel bag containing an HP laptop core i7, US$2 000, a Samsung A73 and a bottle of wine and went away.
On February 5, the accused’s accomplices, John Dzapasi, Bruno Chihande and Ignatius Mukwichi were arrested in connection with this case.
That is when they implicated the two as their accomplices, leading to their manhunt.
On February 15, the two were arrested around the Avenues area, Harare, leading to the recovery of the stolen Samsung A73.
As a result, US$4 200 was stolen and US$500 was recovered.
