The Zesa’s distribution and loss control department has partnered various stakeholders in Bulawayo to raise awareness on the impact of copper cable theft which has burdened the city and country at large.
The City of Bulawayo has been facing water woes due to a number of factors including failure to pump water from supply sources owing to prolonged electricity outages, with vandalism and theft among top causes of such.
In a move to resolve the problem, the city together with ZRP, National Railways and Telone, held a multi factorial awareness campaign in the various parts of the city’s CBD where the public were encouraged to desist from such acts of vandalism and theft.
“The campaign which was held in the various parts of the Central Business District sought to encourage members of the public to desist from Vandalism of service infrastructure particularly the theft of copper cables whose impact is felt heavily in our daily lives,” City of Bulawayo posted on X.
City officials added that the theft of cables has worrying effects such as losing lives, through electrocution among others.
“The vandalism and theft of copper cables has led to loss of lives in hospitals, water shortages due to failure to pump water from the City’s water supply sources,” the city officials added.
