Six men, who allegedly assaulted a man at an apostolic church shrine, have been arraigned before the courts.
Emanuel Ngirazi, 22, Tanyaradzwa Jaravani, 20, Kudakwashe Chihambakwe, 26, Kelvin Maphiri, 25, Tapiwa Samson, 23, and Blessing Mhandure, 19, appeared before magistrate Lynne Chizhou at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with assault.
The complainant in this case is Tichavavamwe Mudyiwa, 39, of Glen Norah C.
They were granted US$20 and will appear in court March 6 for routine remand.
The State, through prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that on February 25, around 1630 hours at an apostolic church shrine in Lusaka, Highfield Harare, Mudyiwa was approached by all the accused persons, claiming that he had stolen their friend's cellphone.
He denied their allegations and it is alleged that all the accused started hitting him several times all over the body.
During the assault, one of the accused persons only known as Denis who is still at large, allegedly took Mudyiwa’s Huawei phone, US$80 and went away.
Mudyiwa made a police report, leading to the arrest of all the accused persons and subsequent recovery of the stolen cellphone.
