A decade after the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, Malaysia is exploring a renewed search effort. The Boeing 777, carrying 239 people, vanished en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014, becoming one of aviation’s biggest unsolved puzzles.
Malaysian Transport Minister, Anthony Loke announced the potential collaboration with US seabed exploration company Ocean Infinity, following two prior unsuccessful searches. This development comes as the 10th anniversary of the tragedy approaches, keeping alive the hopes of finding the plane and offering closure to the families of those onboard.
Loke emphasised Malaysia’s commitment to the search, stating: “The search must go on.” Ocean Infinity previously undertook a search in the southern Indian Ocean in 2018, with Malaysia offering a potential reward of US$70 million for finding the aircraft.
The earlier search efforts, a joint venture between Malaysia, China, and Australia, concluded in January 2017 after two years and US$130 million spent, unfortunately yielding no results. Despite the past disappointments, the search for MH370 continues, driven by the unwavering hope and the families’ need for answers.
