Private investors are playing a critical role in the country towards curbing accommodation shortage in urban areas.

Officiating at the grant launch of Jacaranda Heights residential scheme by Oxprop Properties in Vainona yesterday, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Engineer Benjamin Kabikira said the government is happy with the gesture that public investors are showing to the country.

“As a nation, we have been facing a serious shortage of accommodation so we are extremely happy as the government by the intervention of private sectors in assisting the thrust by the government to provide accommodation.”

He said the multi-storey structures will provide enough space for residents since there is limited land to build big houses.

Oxprop Properties operations director, Michael Swan

Oxprop Properties operations director, Michael Swan said he was proud to introduce the Jacaranda Heights development to the government.

“We are the same development team that’s behind Aspringdale Park and Aspire heights, this is a new development now on the northern side of Harare.”

Aspringdale has 1 200 residential stands, 160 apartments at Aspire Heights and 80 units at Jakaranda Heights.

Oxprop is working with the government’s vision of achieving smart city status and grow the country.

Harare Mayor, Jacob Mafume, who also attended the launch, said he appreciated the work that Oxprop Properties is doing in the City of Harare.

“We welcome investment by the private sector in to alleviating the housing shortage in Harare as you know we are densifying in a city, we are going away from colonial style yards where people had acres and acres of space.”
