Three members of the Banket War Veterans Task Force, which they used to defraud people, have been nabbed.
Charles Mpofu, 68, Washington Chiyangwa, 75 and Tafadzwa Banda, 40, all of Banket, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraud.
They will appear in court on April 10.
The State, through prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that between 2018 to date, the three working together with their accomplices, who have been arrested, advertised on social media platforms that they were an organisation, Banket War Veterans Task Force.
They allegedly recruited a number of people who then collected different amounts of money, ranging from US$10 to US$1 500.
They claimed it was money for fuel, administration, and welfare.
They also claimed it was money for offer letter processing before then moving around Zvimba, Makonde, Raffingora, and Banket areas, showing their victims several farms within Mashonaland West Province.
As a result, around US$6 000 was lost.
