A self-proclaimed watchman, known only as “Watchman of Israel”, has sparked controversy with his pronouncements of impending disaster for Zimbabwe.
Watchman, who insists he is neither a prophet nor a seer, claims to receive divine messages directly from God. He rose to prominence in 2020 after establishing his “Revelation Ministry” and utilising social media platforms like YouTube and Facebook to spread his message.
Watchman’s central message revolves around a looming period of hardship for Zimbabwe. He claims to have foreseen the deaths of prominent figures and warns of “war coming” and “Zimbabweans [going to] die.” These pronouncements, he says, serve as a stark reminder of God's presence and a call for national repentance.
Despite his pronouncements, Watchman rejects traditional labels like “prophet” or “seer”. He positions himself as a unique figure – “The Watchman” – entrusted with the responsibility of conveying divine warnings to both secular and religious leaders. He urges them to “stand right with God” and emphasises the imminent return of Jesus Christ.
Watchman’s approach has raised concerns. He claims to have foreseen the passing of the Nigerian televangelist T.B. Joshua, but his pronouncements often lack concrete details. Additionally, his personal life experiences, including multiple marriages, raise questions about his self-proclaimed spiritual authority.
Watchman’s claims of divine pronouncements warrant cautious consideration. While some may find his message alarming, others dismiss it as fear-mongering.
Watchman interprets the current global climate as a period of divine judgment. He warns of impending famines, pestilences, and wars, citing these as fulfilments of biblical prophecies.
Watchman operates outside traditional religious structures, claiming no spiritual mentor or guidance. This unconventional approach further fuels the skepticism surrounding his pronouncements.
The veracity of Watchman’s claims remains unproven. His message has divided public opinion, with some embracing his warnings and others dismissing them entirely.
