The Zimbabwe Football Association is gearing up for a period of change. The Normalisation Committee led by Lincoln Mutasa has announced plans for nationwide stakeholder consultations.

This process is a critical step towards establishing a new constitution, which will then pave the way for long-awaited elections to choose new leadership for Zifa.

The announcement comes after Fifa lifted its ban on Zimbabwean football in February 2022. The ban stemmed from government interference in football matters, specifically the dissolving of the Felton Kamambo-led Zifa board in 2021.

The NC is emphasising the importance of these consultations, stating that a standardised constitution is the first step towards a brighter future for Zimbabwean football. They acknowledge that the timeframe for elections will depend on how quickly various football structures within the country can adapt to meet the new constitution’s requirements.

These consultations go beyond just the constitution. Zifa also plans to address key issues in Zimbabwean football, including technical development, commercialisation and professionalisation, and club licensing. Stakeholders will also discuss the Fifa Connect programme, a system for registering players, coaches, and referees worldwide.

The NC has recently shown its commitment to development by appointing Norman Mapeza, coach of FC Platinum, to lead the Warriors in an upcoming tournament in Malawi.

Mapeza will be assisted by Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Takesure Chiragwi. Additionally, Simon Marange was named the Under-20 Young Warriors’ coach.
