Opposition party Changu Chimuti Chikapinda Chapinda president, David Chitimbe failed to raise nomination fees that would allow him to contest the Harare East by-election slated for April 26.
slammed the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission for charging exorbitant nomination fees.
This comes as the opposition politician had tried to get the presiding officer to allow him time to pay, pleading that money was on its way between 4pm until 7pm yesterday.
In an interview at the nomination court, Chitimbe said the fees were too high.
“The prices are so deterrent (sic). For an individual to contest, you need to part with US$1 000, which is quite a lot of money …. I requested for time to pay but they didn’t allow anything of that sort,” said the CCCC leader.
In the December 9 by-election, Chitimbe wanted to contest in the Mabvuku-Tafara constituency but failed to raise the nomination fees.
