A man has been slapped with 20 in prison after being convicted of armed robbery.

Six years of the sentence were suspended, conditionally.

Blessing Moyo, 38, appeared before magistrate Letwin Rwodzi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with robbery.

The complainant in this matter is King Kamungeremu, 37, who works as an assistant driver at Doves Funeral Services.

The State, through prosecutor Cecilia Mashingaidze, alleges that on July 4, 2023, Kamungeremu was driving his Honda Fit from Chitungwiza going to the Harare City Centre.

It is alleged that he picked Moto and his accomplice, who is still at large, claiming to be genuine passengers going to town at St Mary’s Clinic bus stop.

Moyo sat at the back while his accomplice was in the front passenger seat.

When they arrived at Manyame River Bridge, the other accomplice who was at the front seat produced an unknown pistol and pointed it at Kamungeremu.

It is alleged that he was ordered to surrender all his valuables, including the car.

Kamungeremu gave them his wallet which had US$5.

The State alleges that the accused persons ordered Kamungeremu to turn left into a nearby dust road.

He then drove towards Kabrit Zimbabwe National Army Camp main gate, Seke Road seeking for assistance.

During that time he encroached into oncoming cars lane where he was hit at the back of his car by a Nissan Navara and a Honda Fit.

Kamungeremu’s car then stopped that is when the other accused fled the scene, firing a shot in the air.

Kamungeremu narrated his ordeal to other motorists who helped him to search Moyo.
