A man from Onvawang Farm in Selous, who allegedly sold the same stand to two people, has been taken to court.
Kauma Pilo, 65, appeared before magistrate Apolonia Marutya at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraud.
He will appear in court on May 7.
Complainant in this matter is Christine Mutara.
The State, through prosecutor Thomas Chanakira, alleges that in 2022, Mutara wanted to buy a stand in Ashdown Park, Harare.
She started making inquiries on such properties, which were ready for sale. She came across information that Pilo was selling a residential stand in the same area.
Mutara met Pilo, who confirmed that he was selling a stand in Ashdown Park, Harare measuring 450 square metres at US$22 000.
Mutara became interested and went on to agree with Pilo for the residential stand to be paid in instalments.
The court heard that from August 2022 to May 2023, on different occasions, Pilo received US$6 440 from Mutara towards the purchase of the stand.
Mutara decided to start developing the stand and she visited the number given to her only to discover that the stand was being developed.
She discovered that the stand was being developed by one Pindukai.
As a result, Mutara was defrauded US$6 440 and nothing was recovered.
