A Kenyan national, Richard Antony Muriar Ogana, has been handed a five-month jail term by a Bindura magistrate for contravening Zimbabwean immigration laws.
Ogana's offence stemmed from his entry into the country in search assistance from a prophet based in Bindura to get healing for an undisclosed ailment.
Upon receiving treatment and recuperating at the shrine, Ogana chose to prolong his stay, prompting the prophet to inquire about his intentions. Ogana admitted to unlawfully crossing the border, prompting the informant to alert the authorities.
Confirming the incident, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe released a statement outlining the events. According to NPAZ, Ogana sought spiritual healing and, upon recovery, refused to vacate the premises, citing a lack of alternative accommodation. Consequently, the informant reported the matter to the police, initiating an investigation into Ogana's immigration status.
Failing to provide documentation permitting his stay in the country, Ogana was arrested. However, the magistrate opted to suspend his five-month sentence, contingent upon his good conduct, while awaiting deportation to Kenya.
