A man, who allegedly sold a car he had already sold to another person without informing the complainant, has been taken to court.
Claudious Nyanyiwa, 26, of Zengeza, Chitungwiza, appeared before magistrate Estere Chivasa at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft of trust property.
The complainant in this matter is Martin Maeresa, 48, employed at Catholic University of Zimbabwe.
The State, through prosecutor Tapiwa Tapi, alleges that on December 22, 2023, Maeresa saw an advert on Facebook of a Mercedes Benz ML350 which was being sold by Nyanyiwa.
It is alleged that Maeresa became interested and contacted Nyanyiwa.
The State alleges that on December 24, 2023, Maeresa met Nyanyiwa at Westgate Shopping Centre for the transaction.
Maeresa bought the Mercedes Benz after swopping with a smaller Mercedes Benz and topping US$1 600.
In January 2024, the car started developing mechanical problems and he returned it to Nyanyiwa so that he could get it fixed and return it.
Nyanyiwa then sold the car and allegedly took the money for his personal use.
Maeresa contacted Nyanyiwa several times so that he could return the car but he kept giving empty promises, prompting Maeresa to report the case.
The car in question was valued at US$7 000.
