The international community has joined in extending its well wishes to Zimbabwe on the commemoration of its 44th Independence Day.
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar earlier today posted on his X congratulating his counterpart Frederick Shava for the occasion of the anniversary of 44 years of self-rule.
"Warm greetings to FM @ShavaHon and the Government and people of Zimbabwe on their Independence Day.
"Will continue working to advance our long-standing partnership," he said.
The minister's post was headlined by a video of images capturing Zimbabwe and India's growing bilateral and business relations that span diffferent sectors including ICT, eduation, health, energy and manufacturing.
The presence of British Ambassador to Zimbabwe Pete Vowles at the celebrations in Murambinda further underscores the international significance of this day.
Chinese envoy to Zimbabwe Ambassador Zhou Ding was among the foreign dignitaries who travelled to Murambinda in Manicaland where this year’s celebrations are being held.
“What a joy to join in the celebration of the 44th Independence Day at Murambinda🇿🇼! My tribute to all who have fought for the hardwon victory against colonialism, and who have safeguarded the unity and development of 🇿🇼.
Happy Independence Day, Zimbabwean brothers and sisters!” he posted on his wall.
British Ambassador Pete Vowles who also made the trip shared his enthusiasm on his social media platform, writing "Makorokoto! Amhlophe! It's good to be in Murambinda today to celebrate Zimbabwe’s independence. Happy 44th Independence Day," he posted on his X handle.
On Wednesday Ambassador Vowles has posted about his visit to the Heroes’ Acre.
“Ahead of Independence Day, I visited the National Heroes’ Acre and took a moment to pay my respects to the men and women who fought for Zimbabwe’s independence. Thank you to Mabel for showing me around,” he posted.
The United States Embassy in Harare shared a message wishing Zimbabweans a Happy Independence day on its handle.
This year's Independence Celebrations are being held in Manicaland Province, where thousands have converged at Murambinda B High School in Buhera. President Emmerson Mnangagwa is officiating the ceremony.
In his address to the nation, President Mnangagwa paid his respects to the heroes who fell in the fight for liberation, specifically mentioning prominent figures like Herbert Herbert Chitepo, Edgar Twoboy Tekere, and Edison Ndabaningi Sithole.
"We salute the various heroes and heroines who hail from this region. These include Cde Herbet Wiltshire Chitepo, Cde Edgar Twoboy Tekere, Cde Edison Ndabaningi Sithole amongst others," he said.
