Zimbabwe’s exports to Zambia are on the rise, with a significant jump of 89% in value between 2018 and 2023. This trend continued in early 2024, with exports rising by 50% compared to the same period in 2023.

While minerals, fuels, iron, steel, and paper products are currently Zimbabwe’s main exports to Zambia, there’s a bright future for processed foods, clothing, agriculture, and related services.

To capitalise on these opportunities, ZimTrade, the national trade promotion agency, recently facilitated the participation of Zimbabwean companies at the Agritech Expo in Zambia. This premier agricultural event attracted over 20 000 visitors and showcased a wide range of products and technologies.

The expo highlighted the potential for Zimbabwean manufacturers of agricultural inputs and implements. This sector has seen global growth, with exports reaching US$828 billion in 2022, and Zimbabwean exports to Zambia increasing by 15% in the first quarter of 2024.

Companies participating in the expo were optimistic about entering the Zambian market, with its population of over 20 million. They reported numerous inquiries and potential deals.
