A 19-year-old man from Uzumba was convicted and sentenced by a Mutawatawa magistrate on charges of having sexual intercourse within a prohibited degree of relationship.
The State proved that sometime in January 2023, the accused person was alone at home with his 14-year-old sister.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority said he proposed love to her and they both agreed to keep their affair a secret.
“The accused person indulged in sexual intercourse with his sister on several occasions at home and in the garden.
“The matter only came to light when the sister became pregnant and was asked by her grandmother who was responsible for the pregnancy and she confided in her grandmother that it was her brother,” the NPA said.
The accused person was sentenced to 14 months’ imprisonment of which two months were suspended.
He will serve 12 months effectively.
