A Harare man, who defrauded his friend in a car deal, has been taken to court.
Brighton Mbunga, 31, of Mt Pleasant, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraud.
He was released on free bail.
The complainant in this matter is Luckmore Magodora, 43.
The court heard that that on February 10, Magodora was approached by Mbunga who was selling a South Africa-registered Toyota Hiace.
It is alleged that Magodora and Mbunga agreed on a price of US$10 500.
On the same day, Magodora paid US$7 500 for the Hiace.
The court was informed that on February 11, Magodora paid another US$1 500 making it US$9 000.
Magodora was given the vehicle and he drove it to his place of residence.
On February 14, it is alleged that Magodora was intercepted by detectives from CID Vehicle Theft Squad, Harare while driving the Hiace.
It was physically inspected and checked in the Interpol database of stolen motor vehicles and it reflected that it had been stolen from South Africa.
The Hiace was impounded for further management.
The investigations that were carried out led to the arrest of Mbunga.
As a result, Magodora lost US$9 000.
