Zimnat employee in court over US$83k fraud

A Zimnat credit officer has been taken to court accused of defrauding more than US$83 000 from the company.

Godfrey Huseni, 46, of New Msasa Park, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraud.

He is employed by Zimnat as a credit officer.

Huseni will appear in court on June 19.

The complainant in this matter is Zimnat Financial Services.

The State alleges that sometime in March 2013, Huseni from a period between March and September 2023, recommended loans without following business protocols and procedures, he recommended loans from clients who had tendered fake documents in form of sureties and fake residential addresses.

The court heard that he did not verify these anomalies, resulting in the company disbursing loans to undeserving clients.

On May 18, it is alleged that Huseni lied that one Florence Mishaninga was a potential client who wanted to access a business loan.

Huseni then took and attached a fake certificate of incorporation, fake documents for proof of residence as collateral security for the disbursement of the loan.

It is alleged that Huseni then recommended Mushaninga as a suitable candidate for approval of credit by the credit committee and, as a result, she received US$10 811.

On May 26, 2023, Huseni misrepresented that one Galtina Masuku was a potential client who wanted to access a business loan.

It is alleged that Huseni took and attached a fake certificate of incorporation, fake documents for proof of residence as collateral security for the disbursement of the loan.

He then recommended Masuku as a suitable candidate for approval by credit committee and, as a result of the misrepresentation, Masuku received US$8  824 loan.

The court heard that on June 2,  Huseni allegedly lied that one Christopher Dembetembe was a potential client who wanted to access business loan.

The State alleges that Huseni took and attached fake certificate of incorporation fake documents for a bottle stole in Chitungwiza and Greendale residence motor vehicle registration book of a 2009 Toyota Hilux which does not belong to Dembetembeas collateral security for the loan.

He then recommended Demembetembe as a suitable candidate for approval as a result of this, Dembetembe received US$9 000.

It is alleged that, as a result, Zimnat Financial Services Pvt Limited lost US$83 270, because of what Huseni did.
