A Mt Darwin man has been taken to court accused of having participated in defrauding Daitak Brends Pvt Limited of US$4 000.

Cleopas Chigede, 52, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ charged with fraud.

He was ordered to appear in court on June 24.

The complainant in this matter is Daitak Brends Pvt Limited.

The State, alleges that on March 30, at Semi Levy Village, Borrowdale, Harare, Chigede - who was working with one of Randstade Resources Pvt Limited directors, Ereck Mponya - who is already on remand, made a misrepresentation intending to deceive Daitak Brends Pvt Limited by producing a cancelled mine registration certificate number 41798 MB in the names of Ereck Mponya and entered into a partnership to mine Manganese, knowing that Mponya was no longer the sole owner of the mine since it had been transferred to Randstade Resources Pvt Limited in 2021 and the agreement is still binding.

As a result of the deceit, Daitak Brends Pvt Limited entered the partnership claiming 70% share.

Daitak allegedly gave Chigede US$4 000 to fund operations which his accomplice and himself did not disclose to their partners.

The matter came to light when his co-directors were approached by Daitak Brends intending to transport some ore.

As a result, Daitak Brends was defrauded of US$4 000.
