Another nyau dance off pitting hosts Zambezi Nyau Club and Mt Pleasant-based Musaiware at Katanga Beerhall, in St Mary’s, a sprawling suburb in Harare’s dormitory town.

This comes as Zambezi Nyau Club has revived interest in the nyau traditional dance, giving it renewed relevance in the country’s mixed bag of traditional dances.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers of the event, Dinnas Kamushinda, said they are ready for the weekend clash, adding that their fans have been their extra dancer all the time. “We are more than ready for the weekend clash and would like to take this opportunity to thank our fans because they are the ones who make us big. We are no stopping in efforts to bring a variety of gule dances to Chitungwiza. You will indeed see, many more very close to you.

“Last weekend were in Bindura where we clashed with Bindura and Beta Bricks of Mt Hampden and we performed beyond midnight.

“We continue to urge our fans to come in their numbers as we cement our position as one of the top nyau dancing groups in the country,”

The leader of Zambezi Nyau Club, whose brand is called the Zimbabwe-Zambian Nyau dance, said nyau dance is actually on the rise and they are trying to push it even further, adding that very soon it would have grown even bigger, beyond people’s expectations.

“We are appealing to our fans to support us so that the dance continues to grow. When we charge US$1, we are only saying support us. We are appealing to those who have the means to support us with transport, meals and refreshments, especially for our visitors. This will only make nyau dance bigger and better.

“On our part as Zambezi Nyau Club, we will not relent, we will continue to bring in more and more competitive sides to keep you entertained,” said Kamushinda.

Kamushinda, who is also an adept mbira player added that Zambezi Nyau Club, who marked their seventh anniversary last year, can compete with any group.
