UZ women’s handball clinches top spot as ZUSA Games come to a close

The University of Zimbabwe women’s handball team claimed top spot while Great Zimbabwe University emerged runners-up in the Zimbabwe University Sports Associations Cluster 2 Games that ended at UZ on Sunday.

This came as athletes from various sporting disciplines drawn from the country’s tertiary institutions showcased their talents as they battled to secure a spot in the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union.

In the women’s short-distance athletics events, Bindura University of Science Education and Chinhoyi University of Technology athletes were neck and neck, displaying exceptional speed and endurance.

In men’s handball, Midlands State University emerged victorious, followed by the Women’s University in Africa.

One standout athlete, Hardlife Chikomba from Lupane State University, dominated the men’s long-distance races, capturing the attention of spectators and coaches alike.

Participants and coaches expressed their gratitude for the successful tournament, which provided a platform for young talent to shine.

In an interview with Zim Now, GZU athletics captain, Tinayeshe Joy Pisirai shared his excitement: “I’m grateful for the ZUSA games, as they allowed me to showcase my talent and qualify for the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union.”

Alongside athletics and handball, the ZUSA Cluster 2 games featured exciting competitions in rugby, tennis, pool, and darts, showcasing diverse talents.

The games were filled with intense competition, memorable performances, and inspiring stories of perseverance.
