A 26-year-old man from Tsholotsho has been jailed for 20 years for raping a 39-year-old woman who was sleeping at Tsholotsho Bus Terminus on September 1, 2026.

The man appeared before the Bulawayo Tredgold Magistrates' Court facing a rape charge. He was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The State proved that at around 3am on September 1, the complainant was sleeping under a shelter at the bus terminus when the offender approached her and began molesting her.

When she woke up and tried to stop him, he overpowered and raped her.

The court heard that after the initial attack, the man dragged the victim towards the flea market area, where he raped her four more times before daybreak. He then ordered her to leave.

The victim reported the incident to people nearby, who accompanied her to the police station to file a report.

The report led to the man's arrest and subsequent conviction.
