Zimbabwe Introduces New Forbes Border Post Toll Fees

Zimbabwe has gazetted new toll and parking fees for vehicles using Forbes Border Post, which connects the country to Mozambique, under Statutory Instrument 179 of 2026.

The new charges, published in the Government Gazette on 6 November 2026, form part of arrangements for the modernisation and future operation of Forbes Border Post.

Under the new fee structure, abnormal-load vehicles will attract the highest toll charge of US$300, with parking costing US$80 per day. Heavy vehicles will pay US$170 in toll fees and US$40 for parking per day, while goods vehicles will be charged US$120 in toll fees and US$40 for daily parking.

Coaches will pay US$100 in toll fees, with parking set at US$10 per day. Minibuses and light goods vehicles will each attract a toll fee of US$30 and a daily parking charge of US$10.

Passenger vehicles will be charged US$20 in toll fees, while parking will cost US$10 per day. Motorcycles will attract a toll fee of US$5, with no parking charge indicated in the published fee schedule.

The statutory instrument further provides that parking charges will apply per day or part thereof, meaning motorists may be required to pay the full applicable daily rate even if they park for less than 24 hours. Where applicable, toll fees will be exclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT).

However, Zimbabwean and Mozambican border officials, as well as government vehicles conducting official business, will be exempt from the charges.

The fees will be collected by the private concessionaire responsible for modernising Forbes Border Post, placing the collection of toll and parking charges within the operational framework of the upgraded facility.

Although SI 179 of 2026 has been gazetted, the new charges will not take effect immediately. The effective date will be announced by the Minister through a General Notice and will coincide with the commencement of operations at the modernised border post.
