BAT appoints new acting company secretary

The Board of Directors of British American Tobacco Zimbabwe (Holdings) Limited has announced the appointment of Mirirai Apolonia Washaya as the Acting Company Secretary, effective April 25, 2024.

According to the company, Washaya is a seasoned Company Secretary with vast experience in Legal, Corporate Governance, and Compliance matters.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Zimbabwe and a Master's in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa. Additionally, she has various academic qualifications in Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, as well as Leadership and Directorship.

Washaya has worked with various organizations, including Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe, Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe, and the BancABC, among others.

The Board of British American Tobacco Zimbabwe (Holdings) Limited has congratulated Washaya on her appointment and welcomed her to the company. The company sees her appointment as a strategic move to strengthen the company’s corporate governance and compliance structures.

“We are delighted to have Ms. Washaya on board,” read part of the notice issued by the BAT board.

“Her wealth of experience and expertise will be invaluable in ensuring that our company maintains the highest standards of corporate governance and compliance.”

Washaya’s appointment is effective immediately.
