The nationwide Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme is ramping up its efforts, targeting a staggering 1,000 new boreholes drilled each month. This ambitious project aims to tackle water scarcity and empower rural communities across the country.
One contractor, Prevail Group International, is already hard at work. Their crews are currently drilling at Muganwinwi High School in Bulawayo, where the new borehole will be transformed into a community business unit.
"We're confident in achieving our goal of 1,000 boreholes per month," said PGI chairman Dr. Paul Tungwarara. "This project is not just about water – it's about creating jobs too. We've already hired over 50 people in each province."
The scheme, overseen by the Zimbabwe National Water Authority , has a multi-pronged approach. It aims to provide clean, accessible water for both domestic use and agricultural endeavors, aligning perfectly with the government's plan to improve water security in remote areas and promote sustainable horticulture
