A driver at the University of Zimbabwe, Vice Chancellor’s office, who allegedly unlawfully entered offices of Interpol Regional Bureau and started searching a number offices, has been taken court.
Whitemore Kakono, 52, of Flat 6 University of Zimbabwe College Flats Mt Pleasant, appeared before magistrate Caroline Matanga at the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with unlawful entry.
He was remanded to July 8 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The complainant in this matter is Interpol Regional Bureau, Harare, represented by Obediah Mpofu, who is employed as a technical officer at Interpol.
The State, through prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that on June 15, at around 2200 hours, Mpofu arrived at his work place from outside the country and everything was in good order. Before going home, he left everything intact with all doors and windows locked.
The court heard that on June 16, at around 0600 hours, Kakono entered into the yard and opened an unlocked door at the main entrance.
He allegedly forced open a window to enter into the second floor of the building, and he ransacked a number of offices.
The court was informed that Kakono was captured on CCTV camera committing the crime.
Investigations led to his arrest on June 17, at the University of Zimbabwe.
He led to the recovery of the navy blue hoodie jacket printed at the front “FC Barcelona Est.1899” he was wearing when he was captured on CCTV camera committing the offence.
