Matonga makes bail, Chimombe, Mpofu to spent weekend in cells

Former Deputy minister of Information, Bright Matonga was on Friday granted US$600 bail by the Chegutu Magistrate’s Court for his theft case, while businessmen Mike Chimbombe and Moses Mpofu remain in custody pending continuation of their bail hearing on Monday.

Matonga stands accused of theft of tractors, he took from one of his former colleague’s farm.

He was  granted bail of US$600.

“Former Deputy Minister Bright Matonga has been granted US$600 bail by the Chegutu Magistrate’s Court. He is facing two counts of theft,” read a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, the NPAZ also reports that Chimombe and Mpofu’s bail hearing has been referred for continuation on Monday, leaving the pair to spend the weekend in cells.

“Bail hearing in the case of Moses Mpofu 49 and Mike Chimombe 43 who are facing fraud charges will continue on Monday the 1st of July 2024,” it read.

The latter pair stand accused of fraud through a tender that they got to procure goats for the ministry of lands, Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Developments, which they failed to own up to contractual agreements.
