Apostolic sect leader Archbishop Emmanuel Mutumwa who said casinos in Zimbabwe and South Africa closed their doors to him after he won US$30 000, has gone viral across the world.
Media houses on different continent including Europe, Africa and the Americas are all carrying the story of the gambling prophet. Social media platforms like YouTube and TikTok are also awash with the story.
The leader of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Sect in Zimbabwe, had said that his win was divine inspired as God showed him the winning numbers.
“They fear they will go bankrupt because I will win too often,” Mutumwa added.
While there is no formal confirmation of the ban of Mutumwa from any casino, an administrator at one has confirmed that they routinely ban individuals with above average winning streaks.
Mutumwa said he used his jackpot to pay school fees for some of his church members and provide start-up funds for businesses.
No stranger to media attention the Bulawayo based religious leader initiated Maspostori for ED and openly urged his followers to join Zanu-PF.
Political analysts believe that the Apostolic follower mobilisation was crucial to President Mnangagwa's slim victory over Nelson Chamisa. The group got special recognition at ED's inauguration with a special bay reserved for them at the National Sports Stadium where the ceremony and celebrations were held.
In 2022 he also went viral locally after he took to social media to threaten a debtor with unspecified action that would land Mutumwa jail unless the debtor paid up by a given deadline.
The image of a gun that accompanied the rant seemed to imply that Mutumwa would shoot the debtor.
