A Karoi man was lucky to when a lenient magistrate wholly suspended the four months incarceration and instead imposed community service after conviction of theft stealing sweets in a supermarket.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said Praise Kangande appeared before the Karoi Magistrate Court and was convicted of stealing two packs of sweets valued at US$7 from Harare Inn Wholesale on June 26.
Kangande was caught on CCTV putting the sweets into his bag and a search at the exit confirmed the theft.
The court sentenced Kangande to four months in prison.
The magistrate suspended two months for five years, and converted the other two months were suspended on the condition that he performs 70 hours of community service.
