A 33-year-old man from Waterfalls Retreat is facing murder charges after he hit a man who had accused him of being a thief with a cement brick.
Kelvin Kagondo appeared before magistrate Apollonia Marutya at the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with murder.
The State, through prosecutor Thomas Chanakira, alleges that on July 3, 2024, at around 2100 hours, Kagondo was on his way home in Retreat Waterfalls, coming from his mother's place of residence also in Retreat Waterfalls.
He passed through Rasta Shopping Centre in the same neighbourhood and was carrying two small children's bicycles, a pram, a guitar and a small bucket with 60 boiled eggs.
The now deceased and other beer patrons who were drinking beer at Gunners beer outlet became suspicious since Kagondo was not familiar in the suburb.
The court heard that they confronted him in an effort to know where he had gotten the property from.
It is alleged that now deceased and other two beer patrons took turns to assault Kagondo in an effort to make him to confess to theft.
Kagondo then picked a quarter cement brick and threw it towards the now deceased and his colleagues in retaliation and it hit him on the head, and he fell down unconscious.
Kagondo then took his things and went to his place of residence.
The now deceased was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
He will appear in court on July 22, 2024, for his routine remand.
