A 42-year-old man has been taken to court accused of stealing phones worth more than US$16 000.
Keith Mawane of Glen Norah, appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Courts accused of theft of trust property.
The State alleges that on March 8, 2024, the complainant entrusted Mawane's business associate, Titus Choto with a consignment of cell phones worth around US$27 000 to go and deliver to their Bulawayo branch Zoom Electronics Shop.
It is alleged that on the same date, along the way, Mawane's car was involved in an accident, and he had to secure the services of another lorry to complete the delivery.
When the delivery was made, it was discovered that phones valued at US$16 008 were missing.
The phones are composed of forty-two itel P40, forty itel A 18, eighty-four itel A04, twenty Ipads, hundred and eighty itel 2163 and sixty itel P271D.
It is alleged that the complainant then reported the matter to the police, and they managed to recover two itel P40 phones that had been disposed of by Mawane.
Mawane, who is a business associate of Choto, connived to steal the property and converted the sale proceeds to personal use.
As a result, the value of property that was stolen is US$16 008.
He was remanded in custody
