Murder Cases Over "Petty Disputes" On The Rise

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has concerned over the number of murder cases which are happening throughout the country due to several issues such as domestic violence which include extra marital affairs, sharing of property on separation and failure to resolve petty issues by couples.

ZRP national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said most of the murder cases emanate from family disputes and urged citizens to resolve their disputes amicably to avoid loss of lives.

The police has recorded cases were minors aged between seven to 17 years killing each other while playing or engaging in various chores including running and playing soccer.

In one of the cases recently recorded, the ZRP is investigating a case of murder which occurred on June 20, 2024 at around 2200 hours at the Biggest Farm in Tengwe.

The police stated that Liberty Chimurambi lured his wife, Aphocine Mandimutsa to a footpath where he stabbed her with an unknown object on the neck before committing suicide.

The wife was found dead with a cut on the neck about 500 metres from her parents’ homestead while Liberty was found hanging from a tree at Paradise Farm in Tengwe.

According to the police, the couple had a misunderstanding over infidelity and they were separated.

Another murder recorded occurred on July 21, 2024 at 2030 hours where Ezekial Chibvongodze stabbed his wife Mitchel Evelyn Katakwe and his five-year-old son Tawana Chibvongodze with an okapi knife in Nyameni, Marondera.

The suspect allegedly had a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue, after he committed the offence he fled from the scene and later handed himself to the police.

On July 19, 2024, Memory Choga was also arrested in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Jeche Primary School in Sadza.

The suspect assaulted the victim with a log indiscriminately following a misunderstanding after the victim had transferred his monthly salary from his bank into his Eco cash account.

The victim sustained multiple wounds all over the body and he succumbed to the injuries.

On July 21, 2024, Thembelihle Maphosa, 22, was arrested in connection with a murder case in which Timothy Ncube, 25, was found dead at his residence at Mahaja extension.

The victim had a deep cut on the neck and the head.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the public to find  peaceful methods of resolving disputes or differences at family and society level. This include at for a where adults and children will be embarking on various socio-economic activities.

The police will continue to engage communities in order to promote the culture of law abiding citizens in all facets of life. Police Raise Concern Over Continued Rise Of Murder Case
